Week 1, 6/20-6/27-2010
Well, the week started out just fine. On Sunday the 20th, we were laying in bed (or is it lying?) discussing our departure from Newport Dunes later that day. We still had one detail to settle. Were we going left or right when we hit the freeway? Talk about waiting until the last minute! We only knew that we had two things that were a must on this trip. Number 1, be in Salmon, Idaho, by July 10th. Number 2, visit Yellowstone.
Why Salmon, Idaho, you might ask? Well, free camping!!! Oh, and because our friends Marc and Jan DellArio have a house on the Salmon River. (photos will follow when we get there). Another freeloading couple, Dave and Jody Wilson, will also be joining us at this convergence of old folks. You may remember Dave and Jody from our 2007 road trip to Maine and back. They are the ones that joined us in Booth Bay and on to Acadia National Park in Maine.
Okay, so we decided to turn left and go to Vegas. Now all we had to do was get there in one piece. Got there about 10:00 pm, pulled into a Casino with RV parking and readied to settle in. Got into the RV only to find that our batteries were both dead. Living full-time, means you are plugged into electricity 24 hrs a day. So, we didn’t know that the batteries would no longer hold a charge! Not good for boondocking. Oh, well, Costco saved the day the next morning and all was well. This was going to be a great week if that’s as bad as it gets.
Well, most of you know that Kirby hasn’t been doing well for awhile. Once we got to Vegas, he took a turn for the worst with his hacking cough. He couldn’t stop, think it was the dry air. We had to make that decision that nobody wants to make. We cried like babies in the waiting room saying goodbye. It was very tough to go through, but we knew it was best. Rest in peace, friend. You all know how I joked about Kirby, but he really was loved, by us, and by everyone who knew him. L
So the week didn’t get better. But we knew we were going to be millionaires because we were in Vegas, and I had had a dream. Positive thoughts.
On Thursday, we got a phone call from our daughter, Lyss, that Seth had been in a car accident! Crap! Was he OK?? YES!!!! Thank God. Great news. And it was totally the other driver’s fault. Hit him on the left front fender and probably too much damage to save the car. Now the bad news. He was driving my Miata!! Silver lining? Yes, we were going to sell the car anyway. Now, I think we found a buyer!! She was insured!! Yayyyyyyy!!! Now let’s hope she doesn’t try to pull a fast one and attempt to get out of her obligations of owning her responsibility.
Sitting in Park City, Utah as I write this post on Sunday 6/27. Will be going on the Alpine Coaster downhill toboggan tomorrow.
